PACIFIC MARITIME ASSOCIATION 29 The Hyundai Mars and Wan Hai 353 at SSA Terminals at the Port of Oakland. TraPac Installs New Hybrid eRTG Cranes at Oakland TraPac successfully deployed its first custom-designed, hybrid electric rubber-tired gantry (eRTG) cranes at its Port of Oakland terminal, joining fellow PMA member SSA Terminals in adopting this environmentally sustainable technology at the port. The six eRTG cranes will improve TraPac's container-handling efficiency and increase volume capacity, while also contributing toward the company's goal of net-zero operations by 2030. The new cranes are expected to eliminate 900 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and 14 tons of nitric oxide annually. Oakland Approves ETS Request to Consolidate Leases PMA member Everport Terminal Services (ETS) consolidated three separate leases at the Port of Oakland, giving it greater flexibility to modernize and adapt its terminal to handle larger ships. The new agreement, approved by the port's Board of Commissioners, places the 90-acre expanse at the Ben E. Nutter Terminal into a cohesive single lease. ETS will now be able to reorganize the terminal, which previously had been configured for container ships that are far smaller than today's post-Panamax and super-post-Panamax vessels. The new agreement is expected to boost efficiency at the terminal. ETS will also deploy at least two near-zero and two zero-emission pieces of equipment in the terminal. PMA, ILWU Local 10 Reach Supplemental Manning, Dispatch Agreement PMA and the ILWU Local 10 reached a supplementary area agreement on local working rules in October, and the union ratified the Letter of Understanding in January 2025. The agreement adjusted manning levels for container ship cargo-handling operations to make them more consistent with other regions. The two sides also agreed to update the San Franscisco dispatch hall equipment to enhance and expedite the dispatch process. 2 0 2 4 | A Y E A R I N R E V I E W
